I'm off for a much-needed vacation. I just finished packing the car and am waiting for the snoring monster in my bedroom to arise. I can't wait. We're going to Seal Rock in Oregon for a relaxing 5 days. It's been months since I was able to get away and it will be even more months before I have a break again. I plan to sip red wine and knit all day. I did remember to pack the camera. Hopefully I'll remember to use it. Then I will tackle the challenge of getting the photos out of it and happily shared with you.

Inspiration

I've been inspired. One of my knit-group friends has a lovely blog (and once I figure out how to insert links) and bloggy friends, and I want to be bloggy, too. I don't have much time, or much sense of purpose, but I think it will be a good challenge. I'm also not great with photos so it will be pretty plain looking for a while. I hope to post at least twice a week for eight weeks. We'll see...

This weekend is the 41st annual U-District Street Fair! This two-day ten-block event is the first big street fair in the area. It is one of my favorite fairs to participate in, and everyone always has a great time.

The Anna Perrone Designs booth will be set up in it the same place as previous years: on the east side of University Ave, just south of 50th (where it is easier to find parking), in front of Rudy's Barbershop. I will have a bunch of new jewelry designs, and even more new knitwear. I've been feverishly knitting Armies (fingerless gloves) and stretchy adjustable headbands. The newest addition to the Armies line-up are Prince and Princess gauntlets and Wonder Woman-esque wrist cuffs.

The fair runs 10am-7pm Saturday and 10am-6pm Sunday. Keep in mind that every piece is one-of-a-kind so shop early for the best selection. Armies and Chilly Weather

One of the newbies is my favorite knit piece yet. The Amethyst Armies were co-designed by my partner and have proven to be best sellers at the local outdoor market.

Speaking of Armies, you might be wondering just what I mean. Armies are my own creation. They are a glove alternative that I originally created for myself. I was having trouble keeping my hands and fingers warm as I crafted and typed. (No one told me it snowed in Seattle...) The long winter here in the Northwest has forced, rather, inspired me to create a whole new line of function knitwear. The current Armies pattern is my own (not altered or copied from another artist).

The style is sometimes referred to as gauntlets, arm warmers, fingerless gloves, wrist warmers or figerless mittens. A snuggly knit tube features a finished opening at both ends ensuring that shape and yarn ends remain intact, a hole for your thumb to poke through, and a contrast stitch around the palm to increase your grip. An additional feature can be added upon special request: a reinforced wrist. And men love them too!!

Armies can be worn for all sorts of different activites or just for style. I use mine while knitting, making jewelry, shopping, driving, typing and while working at my booth at the Fremont Sunday Market. Many other market vendors wear them too. They are great for keeping hands and fingers warm while still allowing you to handle money safely. They can also be worn while jogging, biking, playing an instrument, yoga, walking, etc.

Armies can also help maintain warmth and blood flow through your wrists. Many people, especially crafters and others who work with their hands (massage therapists, grocery checkers, receptionists) are susceptible to repetetive stress injuries (tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, etc.). By increasing blood flow to the afflicted area one can better manage the pain of such injuries. Upon request, Armies can be made with warmer and/or thicker yarn along the wrist area. This helps maintain heat but the added support also helps hold the wrist similar to the way an Ace bandage does.

Armies can be made in any color combination, or in solid colors, and in a wide variety of fibers. Below is a list of yarns I have in my current stock and what that particular fiber offers.

Merino wool: warm, very soft, low allergy, natural fiber

Cashmere: very warm, very soft, natural fiber

Silk: warm, smooth, animal friendly, natural fiber

Bamboo: eco-friendly, natural fiber, renewable resource, feels like silk, incredibly durable

Corn: eco-friendly, natural fiber, renewable resource, feels like cotton

Banana plant rayon: looks like silk, nubby texture, natural fiber, eco-friendly

Cotton & Organic Cotton: eco-friendly, natural fiber, machine washable, allergy free

Alpaca: warmer than wool, lanolin-free, very low allergy, natural fiber

Acrylic: very durable, allergy free, synthetic - allergy free, machine washable

Angora: warm, very soft, natural fiber

So, if your'e looking for a great, functional, snuggly accessory, give them a try. These are the softest Armies you'll ever come in contact with. Don't forget, men love them too.

So, sorry I haven't updated in quite a while. I wanted to add this picture though. I had a Sterling cuff commissioned for a friend. The artist, Zesty Betsy, had an Etsy listing for a plain cuff that could be customized. I want to thank her again for making one of the most stunning yet simple cuffs I've ever seen.

I'm still working to get the new website up and running. I'm very excited about it and I want it to be perfect.

I've also been knitting quite a lot. I absolutely love it, although still not as much as I love making jewelry. I've had tons of success with my fingerless gloves/gauntlets. They are comfortable, affordable, and practical for everyday use in Seattle. Even on the warmest days, your fingers are chilled on the steering wheel during the morning commute. I've also been making socks and just started a vest. Stop by Fremont Market to see the latest progress.

Just a quick note!

Hi all -
Just a quick note today: I'm incredibly excited about the upcoming months!

The EXPOSED event, benefiting Seattle's LGBT Center, went fantastically well. I made a bunch of contacts and plans for future events, and the show was a huge success for the Center.

I just accepted a new position at my day job - a part time assistant in the Fire Department. This new job will allow me to put full-time efforts into the business and still keep all my benefits.

I'm working on an all-new top-secret crafts-and-more show. That's all I can say about it - top secret, you know - but I know you'll all LOVE it!

News, events and discounts! Yay!

Hi everybody! Happy National Craft Month (March)! Greetings from Anna Perrone Designs.

I have some exciting news about the business, how you can get involved, and how to get yourself some great discounts. Yay!

First, I want to say "thank you" to everyone who has continued to support me by braving the weather at Fremont Market. You can find me there every Sunday next to Jim and his yummy candles. There are also some fantastic returning vendors: Jenna, from Bella Sisters (awesome hooded jackets); Janet, from Alphabet Soup Children's Books (kids books, framed prints, stickers); Karl, from Partybots (amazing earth-friendly hand-drawn shirts); and Jamie and Lisa, from KneLow (great lotions, lip balms, and scrubs).

Also making an appearance at Fremont is my new line of knit wear, including scarves, fingerless gloves/wrist warmers, leg warmers, socks, etc. I recently learned to knit and absolutely love it. Everything is hand-crafted, just like the jewelry. And as always, I am happy to take custom orders. The knits are the beginning of my new business venture, Clever Devil Productions. Stay tuned for more from CDP.

I know it's early but I wanted to let everyone know about the University District Street Fair. If you're as ready for warm weather as I am, you won't mind the early notice. This year the fair will be May 17-18. I will have all the jewelry, including some exclusive pieces, and knitwear at the fair. I have booth #28, located just south of 50th, on the north end of the fair.

Here's some news you really want: I'm working on a new website with my friend, Brad, that will include on-line shopping. Check back over the next few months to see the new construction and updates. www.annaperronedesigns.com I'm very excited about being able to offer jewelry 24 hours a day, rather than just on Sundays. I'm also looking for a letterpress artist to help me with some cards and promotional items. If know anyone, please have them contact me.

I have some ideas for your involvement in the business, too. I invite everyone to host a trunk show. Basically, a trunk show is a "Tupperware party" for specific products, in this case, mine. You just need to gather a group of friends at your place and provide room for me to set up. I will bring a large selection of jewelry, including some exclusive pieces, and offer special discounts to you and your friends. You can even taylor the jewelry selection to your preference, be it color, price, style, etc. I can also put together basic jewelry making classes or parties. The best part is that all you out-of-towners can host trunk shows, too. I will put together a package, including jewelry and displays, and mail everything to you. If you are interested in hosting a party, just let me know what days you have in mind, and I'll work with you to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Upcoming art show: I will be one of the featured artists at EXPOSED. This is your official invitation to join the event on Friday, April 4 and 7pm at HaLo Studio on Capitol Hill. This is a great fundraiser for Verbena, Seattle's own lesbian, bisexual, and transgender health organization. My favorite program at Verbena is the mobile mammogram van. Women's health is incredibly important and having the clinic come to you makes it so much easier to get screened for all sorts of medical stuff. I love Verbena's mission so much, I've decided to donate to them $2 of every pink and rainbow purchase made all year long. If you want to donate or volunteer, contact Wendy Sloneker. Happy New Year SALE!!!

Hi all -

I hope everyone had a great holiday season and the new year is off to a good start. I haven't posted in a while but I have BIG news now. As a big Thank You to all those who have supported me and my business over the past three years, my ENTIRE INVENTORY IS ON SALE starting Jan 20th at Fremont Market. It took me over a week to go through every piece of jewelry I have but it was worth it. Half my inventory will be 50% off and the other half will be minimum $2.00 off. Absolutey everything is discounted. There is a catch, however... The sale will only last Jan 20th and 27th at the market. That means you'll need to bundle and brave the weather to reap the savings. The good news is you can buy yummy candles to warm up with once you get home. Jim the Candle Man is already out in full force for the new year.

There are a couple other things on my to-do list for '08. Here are some highlights:

I hoping to expand my in-home parties, so if you, or someone you know, would like to host an evening of friends, food and fabulous jewelry, send me an email. The host gets a discount and there will be exclusive pieces for home parties only.

I'm also hoping to get more wholesale orders. If you know of a boutique (anywhere in the country) that you think would be interested in my jewelry, I'd love to know about it. Also, If you would like to be a rep for my regular jewelry lines, I'd love to talk. I'm especially looking for someone local. Since I still work a regualr 9-to-5 it's hard for me to hit the pavement and meet with shop owners during business hours. Reps would be paid on a commission-based scale. This also includes online reps. If you are tech-savvy and digital-picture-handy and would like to help set up an online shop, let me know.

For a few months in 2007, and for all of 2008, $2.00 of every pink and rainbow purchase will be donated to Verbena. Verbena is a wonderful local organization specializing in women's health, specifically lesbian, gay, transgender, bisexual, etc. They put on wonderful programs and need all the support they can get. Total Bummer

Well, for all the hype and hard work I put into I Heart Indie Holidays, I will no longer be participating in the shows or the planning. Cassandra and I have different ideas on how the shows should be promoted and how business should be operated. As the business was originally hers, she has asked me to terminate my affiliation with IHIC. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

The good news is that I am still participating in many other holiday season shows. Swank Show www.seattleswankshow.com is putting on two shows: Seattle on Dec 8 and Bellevue on Dec 15. The organizers, Kim, Kristin and Julia, have put together two more exciting shows. The vendors are all fantastic and the crowds truly appreciate hand crafted functional art. Urban Craft Uprising, www.urbancraftuprising.com, is on Dec 1-2 this year. I will be sharing a prime location with Knelow Cosmetics www.knelow.com. Jamie and Lisa hand craft the most luxurious lotions, scrubs, perfumes, and lip balms. I've been wearing Jezebelle all week.

As always, I'll be at the Fremont Sunday Market every week, rain or shine. This is, by far, the best place to see me and all my jewelry. Every piece I have is out on display, and it's amazing. I have 40 square feet of pure earring overload. Fremont is a great place to spend a few hours on a Sunday, even in the rain. It is the mecca of independent business in Seattle. And the food at the Market is amazing. The crepes are my favorite.

Even though the holiday season preparation has to start now - for me at least - the fun continues to grow. I'm putting together some home parties. They're not your grandma's Tupperware parties, but similar. The idea is the same, get a bunch of friends together and shop at home - but now you can shop AND drink. So, if you, or anyone you know, want to do all your holiday shopping from the comfort of your home, and have access to wonderful hand-crafted items, just drop me a line. The party will be tailored to your specific likes - what products, how many people, blended or mixed drinks... We can also put together a similar party for fundraising. With your support, we can bring crafty goodness to the masses!

Punk Rock Flea Market, Sept 15

In case you were wondering, I'm still alive, just VERY busy, hence the delay in writing. I'd like to invite everyone to two events this Saturday. The Punk Rock Flea Market is taking place in Belltown, all day long, at the Underground Events Center. Also, Atlas Clothing on Capitol Hill is having a grand re-opening Saturday evening. IHIH Needs Sponsors, and junk...

There's not too much new here. I'm still busy with planning for the triple-threat holiday shows. Remember, there's still room for vendors but the app deadline is the end of the month. We're also looking for sponsors. If you, anyone you know, or any of your suppliers are interested in a great advertizing opportunity, let me know. We have incredibly affordable advertising packages that will be on the website all year and in print for all the shows. Just because we are crafters and artists, doesn't mean that our advertisers have to be. For instance, my chiropractor is a sponsor. He believes in well-being through natural avenues, and is a true "hand-crafter" in his own right. He keeps me sitting up straight which results in very happy crafting!

You should also check out the Fremont Market. The summer vendors are all out and the market is fantastic. Be sure to check out the delicious candles (in the booth next to me), the delicious crepes, and the delicious T-shirts and original art at Partybots. The market runs every Sunday from 10am-5pm.

OH!!! I almost forgot. It's SUMMER SALE for me. I'm clearing out some pieces from last fall. Get them while they last, at amazing prices. I'm gearing up for having jewelry in three new stores, so there will be huge turnover in stock over the next few weeks. I Heart Indie Holidays UPDATE

I have some exciting news! We just finalized the venues for all three I Heart Indie Holiday shows. There have been some scheduling changes, but we were able to book all our first choices. Check it out:

I'm so excited about these shows. It is our goal to provide the best opportunities for local crafters and create a sense of community in the Northwest.

There are still spaces available for vendors of all types. So far we have jewelry, bags, paintings, clothing, soap, cards, housewares, candles, and even chain mail. But we're still looking for more of you. Every hand-crafted item is unique and special and we want to give you an opportunity to show off your creativity.

Don't forget about booth shares, too. We have no limit on how many crafters share a booth. If you have some crafty friends, band together for a 10' x 10' space at all or just one of the shows. Everything is better with a friend! And you double your customer base at the same time.

We also want to encourage everyone to think about ways to expand their businesses. We know that IHIH shows are not the only ones offered during the holiday season (although they are the most affordable). We don't want you to feel like you have to make a choice between shows - we encourage you to do them all, even if they fall on the same day. This will just make you think about your business plan a little harder. Start thinking about ways to do two shows on the same day - how you will create displays and split inventory.

My first two-show day was about 10 months ago, when I decided to do IHR for the first time. I had to figure out how to keep my booth at the Fremont Sunday Market but also participate in Seattle's longest-running and most-talked-about indie craft show. I thought about how to divide inventory and how to leverage my friends and family to help me out. Not only did I double my customer base but I instantly saw the value of expanding my business to accommodate every show I could possibly get in to. And look at me now - co-directing 3 great shows at the forefront of the indie craft world.

If anyone is hesitant to double up on shows or needs some guidance on what shows to participate in, I'm more than happy to help. Since I've been there, recently, I have some insight that you might not. And although I'll push for you to participate in the IHIH shows, I'll offer sound business advice for your specific situation.

ACK! It's been far too long...

I've been incredibly busy with pulling together some new shows in conjuction with I Heart Rummage. Cassandra Lanning, the indie craft goddess, has asked me to co-direct I Heart Indie Holidays. This is a group of shows - Seattle, Bellingham and Portland - aimed at providing new, affordable retail opportunities for local artists and indie crafters.

I'm also swamped with filling orders for summer weddings, restocking for Fremont, and putting a class together. That's right - a class! This Saturday I'm running a BYOS (bring your own stuff) class for beading at the Capitol Hill library. And IT'S FREE!!! If you want to participate, email Cassandra at iheartrummage@hotmail.com. The class will focus on helping students design and complete beadwork projects that they "thought" they could do themselves. So, if you bought a bunch of beads, but have no clue where to start or how to finish, bring them along.

...so I'm super lazy...

...well, super lazy at updating this thing at least...

So the picture is from last summer, but some of the pieces have been re-made with only slight variations. The reason the blog hasn't been updated in months is because I've been going CRAZY trying to get enough jewelry together for all the summer shows. So far, I've participated in Thread and Unzipped, as well as the regular IHR shows. It's been great!

Next weekend, May 19-20, I'll be at the University District Street Fair. This is a HUGE two-day event that has the most amazing vendors, activities, and food - especially food! You should really check it out. I'll be on the east side of University Ave between 49th and 50th, across from Smokin' Dick's BBQ. Not only will you be able to see exclusive new designs, but you'll be able to vote on your favorite booth display. (I intend to win, of course.)

As always, I'm at the Fremont Sunday Market. I have a new permanent spot, right next to Jim the Candle Man. If you love (or even like) candles, color, or amazing aromas, check him out. His candles are all hand-made and have the most wonderful colors and fragrances.

Jewelry Class at IHR

Hi all,

Sorry about the tardy post. I've been busy preparing to teach a jewelry-making-basics class at April's IHR. Stop by the Croc on April 1 to sit in on the class and even have a chance to make your own Sterling earrings. There will be supplies for all and tons of fun. I'll be bringing brand new beads as well as some classics from my signature jewelry line.

There are a few shows coming up that you should check out, too. It's snowing!!!

What?!? That's right. It snowed in Seattle all day long. There's about 2 inches piled up on my car, and the street is totally covered. I'd post a picture of it, but I don't have a digital camera (hint, hint). I know this shouldn't be shocking, but snow on the ground in March is pretty depressing. Luckily, I've been keeping my spirits up by creating fantastic new cuffs. Everything is bright and new.

I'm also excited about all the upcoming shows. Unzipped, Thread, U Distric, Solstice, and the monthly IHR. I'll be at IHR, in the back room, this Sunday. And, weather permitting, Rachel will be manning the booth in Fremont. She's such a trooper. Be sure to stop by and wish her warm thoughts. No pressure, but she loves hot chocolate. Sunday Market Fun

Hi all, just an update. The Fremont Sunday Market is in full swing. Come see me and all the other great craftspeople on Sundays, 10am - 4pm. Jenna, of Bella Sisters, is back and most of her coats are on sale. Check her out at www.jenna-rose.com. Also, there is a booth that sells chocolate truffles. They're pretty good, and I hear you can get "special" chocolates, too.

The weather should be decent this weekend. Stop by and say "Hi".
